Tickets $15
The Kitchen, 512 W 19th Street

Guitarist Bryce Dessner (The National) and percussionist Glenn Kotche (Wilco) are perhaps best known to date for being part of two critically acclaimed rock bands; however, these two incredibly versatile musicians are also accomplished composers in their own right, pursuing a parallel musical practice influenced by noise-based improvisation, classical traditions, and experimental new music. Dessner, also known as a composer and guitarist for the improvising quartet Clogs, will premiere a set of compositions for guitar and string quartet. Kotche, who has released several experimental percussion records, will perform works from his latest solo album Mobile (Nonesuch), adaptations from Anomaly?his recent composition for the Kronos Quartet, along with new arrangements of Joao Gilberto, Steve Reich, and Buddy Holly tunes. Their Kitchen performances will also feature projections by celebrated visual artist Matthew Ritchie.

The 802 tour

Fellow Vermont-to-New York transplants Nico Muhly,
Thomas Bartlett (aka Doveman) and Sam Amidon like to
make music together: they have appeared in each other's
shows, played on each other's records, and now they're
going to grab a friend or two, pile into a van and head off on tour.
Rolling Stone Magazine says of the collaboration:

"In an era of overheated Nick Drake comparisons,
Amidon is eerily close to the real thing, singing in a fragile
but certain tenor against the deep breath and soft sweep
of Nico Muhly's orchestrations."
